Two of the things I'm scared about when I travel are getting hurt and getting sick. These fears guide me to choose which activities I would do, what to bring and what to eat on my trips. I have my moments of courage and curiosity though which take over and I allow myself to plunge into the unknown, do what I've never done and live my life to the fullest. I've discovered in this latest trip what it means to have others have your back, look out for you and have some financial assistance at an affordable price (and peace of mind) if ever something bad happens. On this day, I teamed up with 4 other bloggers to do the Pioneer Travel Buddy Challenge at Kampo Trexo in Alfonso, Cavite.
Pioneer's Travel Buddy Insurance specially covers activities such as various water sports, scuba diving, mountain climbing and extreme sports like skydiving for thrill-seekers. You can engage in a mix of these and many more for 30 days for P200 online. I wish I had this when we had that Zorb accident in Boracay with my sister a few years back... But, yeah, I wouldn't take things seriously and recognized the value if it wasn't charged to experience. Pioneer took us to a teambuilding camp near Manila and it's nice to have actual buddies and an invisible buddy who shouts "It's okay, you're insured." in your ear when you feel a slight weakness of heart - at times when you just want to try things out.
It's near the first Bag of Beans store - you go straight then right down the Buck Estate Road (near Sonya's Garden) when you see Splendido. We went thru a winding path from there.
Kampo Trexo is open for camping and trekking. They can lead you to an area with a river but we didn't go that far (thank goodness haha). I was already tired from our lineup of activities and clearly a bit out of shape. You can check out the rates and programs here.
We passed by bonfire pits,
the comfort room and shower area (no hot water, toiletries and mirrors)
and settled at the mess hall or dining area.
They prepared some tapa for breakfast.
It's a very good idea to down some food before all the physical activity coming up.
One thing I noticed was the presence of a lot of big mosquitoes and they came at me even with insect repellant and leggings. I guess they just love my blood that much... I applied for the Pioneer MediCash Dengue Insurance on the spot haha (costs only P350). Although there's a 16-day period before it becomes valid, I have a year worth of protection or at least a P10k bill assistance in case I contract dengue.
We were teamed up for the challenge as the Green Warriors!
And we actually won the first one to create a cheer so it was a great ego booster haha.
I was all confident and actually excited to go rappelling.
The 5 of us had to rappel and do wallclimbing in 20 minutes!
I've done wallclimbing maybe once or twice before so I knew I could do it. I just forgot to use my legs instead of my arms while doing the task. My height was a big disadvantage (I couldn't reach that far) and my arms were killing me I just froze midway from exhaustion...
We never gave up though and we did win this challenge again. =)
We went to another part with the obstacle course next for the third challenge. Here are some of the things I thought I could not do but eventually did at my own pace. We had to finish all these in like 15 minutes and will receive deductions if we choose not to do some.
I managed to do all these but got splintered here coz I chose to sit instead of stand. I was panting and a bit off-balance already at this point haha.
I managed to hit my head while climbing below but no biggie. These last 2 I didn't do anymore. I just knew I had pushed myself to my limit and needed a bit of rest and rehydrate before I get more disoriented.
Here's my battle wound haha. I kind of lost count of the points by this time.
We had boodle fight for lunch.
For an added challenge, we had to look for our colored flags spread somewhere while we go to the last venue.
Looking for green in a forest of green is not that easy, trust me, but I found our flag!!! =)
For the next and final challenge, we sent our best rep Paul to represent our team.
Both Marj and I were just happy to cheer for all of them who dared to do all those stunts.
If time wasn't an issue, I would have tried the course out.
The last activity for fun was the sit-down zipline.
All of us had the shortcut zipline or had to walk back the forest and hanging bridge. Hehe. It's not as far as the one in Singapore but it was okay.
The Green Warriors finished second overall and survived a 9 to 4 challenge! I'd like to thank Pioneer Insurance for another adventure and a bonding experience with new friends. A big thank you also to my teammates for all the encouragement and incredible team spirit =)
