May 22, 2013 (Wednesday) Morning
Today was a super eventful day here in Sapporo, Japan! I would have to divide it into three parts because there are so much pictures and things to show you hahaha. First off, it's my first time to eat a fruit sandwich! It's weirdly good and filling - and a very nice and "healthy" brunch idea! You may want to try this fruit sandwich restaurant called Saera, conveniently located very near the Odori Subway Station Exit 19 if ever you come here =) Although I cannot speak Japanese and there is no English menu, I'll tell you some of the things you can order in this post hehe. It's also a good restaurant concept to bring to Manila or a good snack suggestion to do at home BTW hahaha.
To get to the Saera Sandwich Shop, just take the subway to Odori Station (green line). Look for Exit 19.
Go in the small entrance beside the Marui Imai Mall (still underground, don't go up or out) and immediately to your right you will find this sign
and the steps down to the restaurant!

The place was super packed at lunchtime when we came (locals and mostly women of all ages).
I ordered the Fruit Sandwich at 750 yen! Several pieces of strawberry, kiwi, apple and peach were sandwiched with four half slices of white bread and super light sweet cream =) I never thought about combining all of these at home, especially adding in the bread haha. As I said, it turned out weirdly good ;) The fruits are also great, juicy, sweet and fresh here so I think that's what makes it work.
You can also try this King Crab Sandwich! King Crab is a famous must-eat in Hokkaido. I initially thought of getting this sandwich but I had a change of heart. Good thing though because there was a certain mild spicy kick to it so I wouldn't be able to finish it by myself. We were thinking that it was wasabi, onion or spring onions. If you love any of those stuff then you would enjoy this.
There are lots of mixed sandwiches and combinations available like the Fruit Sandwich & Potato Croquette below. There's a whole page dedicated to Curry and others like Beef Pastrami, Tuna, Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, etc. There are many more unthinkable ones haha. Ask the waiter and try to match/guess the katakana they will say into English-sounding words - you can also do in other restaurants in Sapporo hahaha.
This is a half-eaten Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Sandwich.
We added 200 yen to make it into a set with drink. There are coffee, tea and milk available. This is Iced Coffee and they will give you milk and (take note) gum syrup =) It was super strong and bitter for me.
My sister said someone told her that these (sugar) are for hot beverages only. Gum syrup is for cold beverages here. FYI Haha.
I got myself some Cold Milk because Hokkaido is also famous for its dairy products =)
Feel free to tell me below: What do you think of the Saera Sandwich Shop in Odori? Have you had any weird flavored sandwich lately or do you have a special sandwich preference? Where did you eat it and what was in it? Haha.
