Gyeonggi province surrounds the city of Seoul and one of the things I like about it is that the subway reaches Suwon (and Everland which is in Gyeonggi-do also)! For our last day on this trip, we visited all these sites in Gyeonggi that you might want to explore too! Part I is about Gwangmyeong Cave, which is located near The Grand Masterpiece Media Art Exhibit.
Masterpieces of Van Gogh and Monet were combined with IT technology like projection mapping and VR in this exhibition in Gwangmyeong.
The Gwangmyeong Cave was transformed from an abandoned mineshaft to a cave theme park.
There's a 350-seater cave concert hall,
live fish which only thrives in clean water,
pathways up and down with various installations,
a sculpture replica from the Lord of the Rings,
some historical information (this cave was once the largest metal mine of gold, silver, bronze and zinc in the capital area for 60 years from 1912 then used for salted-shrimp storage from 1972 to 2010),
a botanical garden,
a wine cellar and restaurant,
an underground lake, etc.
We then sent in a postcard outside that will send us mail in a year =)
If you're interested to check out this Gwangmyeong Urban Restoration Park Cultural Cluster then check out this site. If you don't want to walk then maybe check out the route of the Elephant car for 2000 won ;) Soon in July, they will open the Experience Mine Cultures activity where you can find gold, silver, gemstone and mineral. There are many more sites in the KTX Gwangmyeong Station Area like the Gwangmyeong Traditional Market, IKEA, Lotte Premium Outlets, Costco, the Gureumsan Forest Park, the Kia-ro Eatery Street, the Anteo Eco Park, the Chunghyeon Museum, the Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center and the Bamil Village Food Street.
This trip was made possible by the Korea Tourism Organization Manila Office and the Gyeonggi-do Tourism Organization.
